She looked at him, "You can't leave, we can figure something out..." she drifted off. She knew what he would say, there was nothing she could do to change that.
"I have to leave and you know I can't do anything about it." He said this in a gentle tone, trying to hide his agony. He didn't want to leave, but he knew he had to.
She looked down, trying to hide the tears in her eyes.
"Whatever happens, I'll always be with you." The softness of his voice was almost enough to make her smile. He leaned over and kissed her. She felt his smooth lips for what might be the last time.
She looked up and stared into his golden brown eyes. This wasn't fair. Why did he have to leave? It was as if the world didn't want them to be together.
He turned around and dissapeared into the woods. Around her neck, she felt the cold necklace that he had given her on their first date. It was a silver heart hanging on a silver chain. It was simple, but it meant everything to her. She took it off and dug a whole at the bottom of a pine tree. She placed the necklace inside it and covered it with soil, burrying her love along with the silver heart.
Decades later, the necklace is still there. Kids run around the forest ignoring what had happened a long time ago. Everything seems normal, but beneath the earth at the bottom of a pine tree, lies a silver heart, representing and strong, but impossible love. If someone is to find it, they won't know what it will mean, it will just be another mystery.
